Company Profile

Hi everyone,

My name is Joslyn Barcel. I am very proud of my family and I would like to tell you a little bit about them.

My dad is currently president and co-owner of Barcel Mill & Lumber Co. Inc., a family owned business near Bellwood NE. The company was started in 1948 by my grandfather Donald Barcel (we always called him papa). It produces lumber and pallets for the manufacturing industry and stakes for the construction and nursery industry.
Six years ago my dad started Barcel Landscape Products. Potting soils, shredded hardwood mulch, color enhanced mulches such a Big Red MulchTM.  We make 3 other colors and my dad can make custom colors, if you would like. We also make PLAY MATTM, a tested fall protection barrier developed for under playground equipment.

to risk the
safety of
our children!!

Dad teases me that he made this stuff because I am a squirrel and climb all over my playground equipment, and he's worried about me falling off. I even drew the picture for the bag that he sells it in and look for the picture of me and my bestest friend Beth on the PLAY MATTM page. 

In 1971 when dad was a little boy, Papa and my dad started planting trees on the land their house and business are on. They planted thousands of them. After about 10 years, my dad took over, and he started to collect all different kinds of trees. He now has over 200 different species and is always on the lookout for more. One day my sister said she thought dad's favorite day was Arbor Day. I told her that dad thinks everyday the ground isn't frozen is Arbor Day.

In 1995 dad started a container tree program. First to test different kinds of potting soil mixes, and second to offer the standard and more unique species of trees to the regional nursery industry that are acclimated to the Midwest weather.

In January 1997, my dad was elected to serve on the board of directors for the Nebraska Nursery & Landscape Association at their 25th annual conference in Lincoln. Dad was really happy about that. Don't you think that's great?

The other members of my family are my mother, Paula, a brother also called BJ, and a sister named Amber.

Well, Dad brought me some new bird seed today so I am going to make some peanut butter pinecone treats for the birds.  I hope you will try my dad's products and come see us again.
