- Bethphage was founded in
Axtell, Nebraska by a Lutheran pastor, Reverend K. G.
William Dahl, on February 19, 1913.
- Since 1980, Bethphage has
grown from serving 219 people at Axtell, Nebraska to
serving over 1,700 children and adults with developmental
disabilities and their families through programs located
in several states including Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado,
Arizona, Oregon, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Texas, Oklahoma,
New Mexico, Connecticut, Utah, Pennsylvania, and Alabama.
Internationally, Bethphage has expanded its services to
reach individuals in Great Britain and Latvia.
- Bethphage is a
not-for-profit organization and serving arm of the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).
Bethphage has eighteen board directors from across the
country. Bethphage's corporate membership consists
of the Division of Church in Society and eighteen synods
of the ELCA.
- Home Office is located at
the Lind Center, 4980 South 118th Street, Suite A, Omaha,
Nebraska 68137-2221 (Phone: 402-896-3884;
Fax: 402-896-1511). The Home Office
houses Bethphage's central management team and support
staff. A staff of over sixty provides accounting,
computer services, information management, resource
development, and human resources for over 3000 employees
across the country, as well as the oversight of quality
care and religious services for children and adults with
developmental disabilities.
- The Bethphage Foundation
exists for the purpose of raising funds and managing gift
dollars and investments to provide sustaining support,
outreach funds, and an endowment to ensure Bethphage's
future. The annual operating budget totals more than
$77 million. Funding is provided by state and
federal assistance as well as gift dollars.
- Program services include
residential settings, in-home family support, vocational
training, employment, respite care, and spiritual
development. Bethphage's specialized programs ensure
that persons served can progress to their fullest
potential and live as independently as possible.
- Bethphage's philosophy and
day-to-day operations are based on a Mission Statement
which centers around commitments to outreach, quality
assurance, financial responsibility, and religious
services.
- Bethphage is committed to
quality. Policy requires accreditation of each
eligible program by The Council on Quality and Leadership
in Supports for People with Disabilities or the
Rehabilitation Accreditation Commission, both nationally
recognized accreditation agencies.
